National Center for Oral Medicine Launches: First "Oral First-Visit Center" Established, Equipped with 700 Dental Chairs

DentalGoodNews | On March 20, 2026, the National Center for Stomatology (Shanghai) was officially inaugurated at the Eastern Campus of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai Ninth Hospital"). Led by Shanghai Ninth Hospital, the center is located in the core area of Zhujiao Town, Pudong, adjacent to Pudong International Airport and Shanghai East Railway Station, aiming to create a globally-oriented open window for medical and health services.

The new campus is equipped with 800 inpatient beds and 700 dental chairs. Shanghai Ninth Hospital has prioritized the deployment of its distinctive and advantageous disciplines such as stomatology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, and ophthalmology here, aiming to simultaneously enhance the capacity for diagnosing and treating specialized complex and severe diseases and the standardized treatment level for regional common diseases. According to previous reports by DGN, Shanghai Ninth Hospital opened an International Medical Department with over 100 dental chairs in 2024. The inauguration of the Eastern Campus marks the comprehensive formation of its "one hospital, three campuses" development pattern.

Addressing the public's pain points of "difficulty in registration and triage" for dental care, the National Center for Stomatology building initially adopted a functional layout of "three major centers + two major platforms." Among them, the "Oral First-Visit Center" on the first floor is a highlight. This center comprehensively integrates sub-specialty resources such as Endodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery. It charges according to standard outpatient fees, is staffed by senior attending physicians, and undertakes the functions of guidance, initial screening, triage, and basic treatment, achieving one-stop dental care services for "fillings, extractions, prosthetics, cleaning, and prevention."

Furthermore, the center also showcases the clinical application of high-precision technologies. On the day of its inauguration, a patient with maxillofacial deformity underwent maxillofacial surgery assisted by a 3D-printed surgical guide. Wang Xudong, President of Shanghai Ninth Hospital, stated that through preoperative digital simulation design and 3D printing technology, precise intraoperative positioning can be achieved, ensuring the safety and accuracy of complex surgeries.

Ma Yanbin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Ninth Hospital, stated that the opening of the Eastern Campus will promote the eastward deployment of national-level high-quality medical resources, injecting new momentum into the medical and health undertakings of Pudong and even the Yangtze River Delta region.
