DentalGoodNews | March 24, 2026 – Canadian dental staffing platform Fairly Staffing announced a partnership with embedded payroll software provider Nmbr to launch the dental industry's first integrated compliant payroll management system. This system is designed to help dental clinics navigate the escalated scrutiny from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regarding the misclassification of temporary workers. It ensures clinics meet tax compliance requirements when managing temporary staff and assists in correctly classifying and paying these workers.
According to its announcement, the Canadian government's 2025 budget explicitly stated an increased crackdown on employers who misclassify employees as independent contractors, particularly targeting industries heavily reliant on temporary or contract labor. Currently, Canadian dental clinics commonly rely on temporary dental hygienists and assistants to maintain schedules but often treat them as independent contractors. However, CRA guidelines typically classify a worker as an employee if they work on the clinic's premises, use the clinic's equipment, and follow the clinic's schedule. Such misclassification can expose clinics to financial risks, including potential back payments for CPP (Canada Pension Plan), EI (Employment Insurance), and income tax.
By integrating Nmbr's embedded payroll engine, Fairly Staffing addresses a gap in specialized payroll infrastructure for the dental industry. The system can automatically calculate payroll deductions, remit relevant taxes directly to the CRA, deposit net wages into workers' accounts, and generate compliant payroll documentation. Amir Reshef, CEO of Fairly Staffing, noted that traditional payroll systems struggle with rapid payment for single-day work, while pure staffing platforms lack compliant withholding capabilities. This partnership marks the first closure of this loop.
As Canada's first provider focused on embedded payroll software, Nmbr provides the underlying technical support for this collaboration. Simon Bourgeois, CEO of Nmbr, stated that by integrating compliance requirements directly into the software clinics already use, businesses can ensure payment legality from day one.
