The lead surgeon involved has been suspended from practice to cooperate with the verification process, and the hospital pledged to pursue accountability in accordance with laws and regulations.

According to a report by Shenzhen Radio and Television Station's Urban Channel "First Scene" on July 26, the patient, Xiaoyu (pseudonym), a 24-year-old model, sought treatment at the Hospital of Stomatology Wuhan University in 2025. Her preoperative assessment indicated only a 2mm skeletal mandibular prognathism, with the clinical plan involving a 2mm posterior adjustment of the mandible. The report cited the patient's claim that the actual surgical procedure was performed in the opposite direction, with her mandible being pulled outward by over 13mm, accompanied by a lateral deviation, resulting in three-dimensional facial asymmetry. In the interview, the patient stated that after consulting multiple medical institutions, the feedback was consistently that "the surgery was indeed done in reverse."

In her interview with "First Scene," patient Xiaoyu stated that her postoperative complications involve multiple aspects: gingival recession, crossbite, left deviation of the nasal septum causing nasal airway obstruction, and the forced suspension of her modeling work. Additionally, her secondary repair plan requires sequential steps: removal of internal fixation plates and screws (approximately 10,000 to 20,000 yuan), endodontic treatment, bone grafting, and preoperative orthodontics (approximately 60,000 yuan), with the surgery itself estimated at around 100,000 yuan, totaling over 300,000 yuan. Xiaoyu noted that doctors currently involved in the repair assessment have indicated that, due to the existing jaw deviation being a three-dimensional iatrogenic deformity, the secondary repair is extremely challenging, and the outcome remains uncertain.

Regarding the rights protection process, Xiaoyu stated in the "First Scene" interview that she submitted a written complaint to the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission on May 20, 2026, which was formally accepted on June 1. After a tripartite meeting on June 23, the Health Commission informed her that "the hospital recommends directly pursuing legal channels," but the oral response failed to facilitate a substantive resolution. Currently, Xiaoyu said she has followed her lawyer's advice, organized medical records, imaging data, and chat records, and resubmitted them in writing, requesting a written response.

According to a report by China Daily, the lead surgeon previously told the patient during a follow-up visit, "I like this facial type; it looks more stylish now than before." This statement has been submitted as key evidence.
