Good Teeth · News |According to a report from the China Times News Network, an unlicensed dentist in Tainan City, Taiwan Province, China, has been soliciting patients through social media for teeth whitening and orthodontic medical services since July 2020. After nearly 5 years, he was arrested. The Tainan Prosecutors' Office has indicted him for violating the Physicians Act and requested the court to recover NT$11.2 million (approximately RMB 2.5 million) in illegal proceeds from him.
The report pointed out that according to the investigations by the Tainan Prosecutors' Office and the Tainan City Health Bureau, this unlicensed dentist posted real - life cases of teeth whitening and orthodontics on social media and solicited patients at prices of NT$39,800 and NT$110,000 per session. From July 2020 to February 2025 when he was arrested, this unlicensed dentist made a monthly profit of NT$200,000 to NT$300,000, with an estimated total profit of over NT$11.2 million.
The investigation also showed that this unlicensed dentist purchased various dental medical devices through an e - commerce platform in the Chinese mainland, including resin cements, composite resin filling materials, dental adhesives, hydrofluoric acid gels, silane primers, and dental veneers, etc., and is suspected of selling and supplying medical devices that were imported without approval.
The prosecution has determined that this unlicensed dentist continuously carried out repeated and continuous medical practices on patients from July 2020 to February 2025, illegally practicing medicine for 56 months, which constitutes the crime of illegally practicing medicine in violation of Article 28 of the Physicians Act of Taiwan Province. The prosecution has requested the court to, in accordance with Article 38 - 1, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Law, declare the confiscation of NT$11.2 million in illegal proceeds. If all or part of it cannot be confiscated or it is not appropriate to enforce the confiscation, the value shall be recovered.
