DentalGoodNews|October 29, 2026, dental surgical robot company Neocis announced that its Yomi S robotic system and accompanying YomiPlan software received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance, adding an expanded indication for pterygoid implant placement. The company stated that this is the first FDA-cleared system in the United States for digitally guided surgery for pterygoid implants.

According to Neocis, pterygoid implants are typically placed deep in the posterior maxilla at angles of approximately 17 to 45 degrees, with implant lengths of approximately 15 to 24 mm. This procedure utilizes the dense bone tissue in the pterygoid region, may avoid sinus lift in some treatment plans for suitable cases, and provides anterior-posterior support for immediate loading and same-day provisional restorations. Due to the deep placement location and large operative angle, this procedure places high demands on control of the implant path.

Neocis stated that the company conducted verification and validation testing for the pterygoid implant placement workflow to evaluate whether Yomi S can maintain established accuracy metrics throughout the entire surgical workflow. Its human factors engineering validation results showed that trained dental professionals, after reading the user manual, can safely and effectively perform the procedure without additional robot-specific training.

In addition, according to the company, prior to this clearance, Yomi S had been cleared for single-tooth, multi-tooth, full-arch, and dual-arch implant surgeries, as well as guided alveoplasty. As of the publication of this announcement, more than 125,000 implants have been placed with Yomi robot assistance.

About Neocis: Headquartered in Miami, Florida, USA, the company focuses on the development of dental robot-assisted implant surgery technology. Its investors include NVentures, owned by NVIDIA, and Intuitive Ventures, owned by Intuitive Surgical.
