DentalGoodNews|On June 25, 2026, South Korean dental implant manufacturer MegaGen Implant Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "MegaGen") launched the absorbable collagen membrane Meg-CoL (Soft Type), which has received approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).
According to the company's disclosure, Meg-CoL (Soft Type) is based on Type I collagen, independently developed and manufactured by MegaGen. It is intended for use in Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) and Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) surgeries, functioning as a barrier to maintain the space required for bone regeneration.
Additionally, the company stated that the tensile strength of Meg-CoL in internal tests reached up to 1.4 times that of the control sample, potentially minimizing tearing and deformation during surgery, thereby improving handling performance. The company noted that the product maintains structural stability during degradation, providing sustained barrier protection, and its flexibility increases after hydration, further aiding intraoperative manipulation.
The company reported that preclinical evaluation results show the product effectively blocks soft tissue invasion and maintains regenerative space. Meanwhile, histological observation around the membrane revealed mineralization, suggesting a potential role in bone regeneration. However, these conclusions are based on preclinical studies, and clinical efficacy requires further evidence for support.
The company indicated that Meg-CoL (Soft Type) aims to enhance the predictability of GBR and GTR surgeries through improved barrier function, morphological stability, and mechanical strength, while also offering a competitive price advantage. Currently, the product has been pre-released at SIDEX 2026 (Seoul International Dental Exhibition), with plans to expand clinical use through promotional activities.
